While Martok was staring off into space, apparently having a conversation with himself, Garyn found some interesting pieces of parchment on the floor. There were some notes that mentioned the realm of faerie and the unseelie court, as well as a strange diagram and some magical scrolls.

Lukwind recognized the diagram as an abstract depiction of the outer planes. The realm of faerie was a myth, as far as he knew, of an extradimensional plane of existence where all of the fey had originated. In legends, the seelie court ruled over the "good" fey, while the unseelie court was home to the "bad" fey. The party unanimously expressed the opinion that, in their experience, "the only good fey is a dead fey."

Since the spellcasters had already used up all of their magic fighting the mimic, they wanted to go back to the village and return on the following day. However, Garyn and Elsa were keen to find out what was behind the secret door. There was also a concern that the evil flying creatures would return tonight to take their revenge. It would be preferable to fight them at a time of the party's own choosing.

Having reached a decision, the adventurers prepared for battle. Lukwind began to sing a rousing tune. Rohit edged the stone door aside, but ducked as a large fang flew past his ear. Brandishing their shields, Gerald & Elsa stepped through the door. At the bottom of a short stairway, a creature that Gerald recognized as a harpoon spider regarded them with its many eyes. Rohit tumbled nimbly down the stairs and hacked at its soft underside, before springing back out of reach. Gerald was not so lucky, and the creature's fangs bit into his arm. He stumbled as the poison took effect.

Flying over the heads of his companions, Martok fired arcane bolts at the creature's eyes. Rohit, meanwhile, targeted other vulnerable parts with his kusari-gama.

Soon enough the monster was dead and they were able to tend to Gerald's wound. They expected to find a cache of treasure alongside the corpses of earlier meals, but a thorough search revealed nothing.

The party continued down countless flights of stairs and landings. It was pitch black in the passageway, so Elsa lit a torch. Lukwind's magical light still shone on his shield. With his Elven eyesight, Garyn was able to spot whisps of mist at the bottom of the next set of stairs. Sweeping aside his cloak, he released his pet bats to seek out any enemies.

He peeked around the corner, but couldn't see anything. However, his bats showed him that there were insubstantial creatures lurking in the mist. He notched an arrow to his bow.

Gerald joined him on the landing just as four figures coalesced out of a transluscent gas. They were dressed just like common folk from the village, but the lean and hungry look on their faces made the adventurers' hair stand on end. Garyn loosed an arrow that hit one square in the chest, but it remained standing. Elsa charged forward while Rohit sprang in and out of combat. Lukwind continued to sing and inspire his allies.

Gerald held his holy symbol aloft and commanded the vampire spawn to begone, in the name of Perseus Eurymedon, slayer of Gorgons and founder of Mycenae. Two of the undead turned and fled, while Martok killed a third with his arcane blasts. However, rather than being destroyed, it returned to gaseous form and floated away. Elsa chopped the last one down and it too became gaseous.

Meanwhile, Rohit was distracted by wisps of smoke that drifted down from the ceiling and coalesced into the form of a beautiful woman. She had porcelain skin and raven black hair, and her eyes ... those eyes held him completely captivated. Suddenly he had the urge to rip the disgusting cloves of garlic from around his neck and toss them into the corner where the stink would not trouble his beloved. She walked up to him and took him in her arms ... so strong.

The rest of the adventurers were down the next flight of stairs, so it took them a few moments to notice what was happening to Rohit. Gerald brandished his holy symbol but the vamp ignored it and continued to drink her fill from Rohit's veins. Garyn and Elsa ran up the stairs and stabbed the vampire with their magical swords, which certainly got her attention. She became insubstantial and floated away up the stairs, with everyone jogging after her.

At that pace, it took much less time to climb the many flights of stairs back the way they had come. Rohit seemed shaken by his experience, but managed to keep up. By the time they reached the entrance of the secret passageway, he was in the lead with Garyn close behind. In her gaseous form, the vampire seeped through a crack under the door. Rohit took out his kasugai and barred the door, but Martok used his baleful utterance to shatter it. Spinning his kusari-gama, Rohit attempted to hold his companions off, but he was soon surrounded.

Suddenly there was a bright flash that blinded everyone who was looking at it. Lukwind was fortunate enough to retain his sight and saw Rohit somersault over everyone's heads and head upstairs to the second floor of the tower. The bard ran to the stairway in pursuit.

Garyn still had a reasonable idea where the doorway was, even though he could no longer see it. He rammed it with his shoulder and felt the door give way with a satisfying crunch. Martok attempted to go through the door after him, but since he was airborne when the flash bomb went off he had lost his bearings.

When Lukwind reached the top of the stairs, Rohit hit him in the back of the head, but not hard enough to knock him unconscious. As he turned around, he saw Rohit run across the tower and jump all the way up to the crumbling roof, before disappearing over the other side. Lukwind attempted to talk with him and figure out the reason for his behavior, but he received no response. Lukwind cast a spell and became invisible, then headed back downstairs.

In the meantime, the other adventurers had regained their sight. On the other side of the door that Garyn bashed down was a short hallway, and at the end of that hallway was another door. Garyn and Elsa attempted to force the door open using their combined strength, but it wouldn't budge. Elsa took out her battleaxe and hacked it to pieces.
