Thanks to his ring of sustenance, Rohit only needs 2 hours of sleep per night. Therefore, while Elsa & Lukwind were sleeping, he crossed the market bridge into the Docklands and had a look around. He visited the Pickled Otyugh, but Cadric Dewash & his horrible hobbits were the only ones there. Out on the streets, he witnessed a fracas between Dench's gang and some refugees.

On his way home, he happened across a corpse in an alleyway that had been neatly eviscerated. Thinking that it might have something to do with the murders they had been investigating, he took a closer look. It was the body of a human male, middle-aged and dressed in workmen's clothes. The skin of his chest and abdomen has been sliced open by multiple cuts, and his ribcage forced apart. It looked like all of his organs, including the lungs and intestines, have been removed. His coin purse has not been taken, so he must have been killed very recently.

When he got back, he told Elsa & Lukwind about his discovery. However, then Lukwind & Rohit needed to go to rehearsal with the Amazing Chicanery Troupe. That evening, they disguised Elsa as Deborah the pirate and disguised themselves as her hobgoblin associates. In 2 hours, they managed to visit just about every tavern, inn and gambling den in the Docklands. By intimidating the patrons, they not only managed to make a lot of people angry with Deborah, they also gained a great deal of valuable information about the pirates of Knossos:

  • everyone was surprised to see Deborah - they'd thought that the pirates had all left town a week ago
  • the pirates are a source of illegal drugs in Marchion. They have a new drug called green welcome
  • their bosun was killed in a barroom brawl in Helsmuth, earlier this year. They hired Deborah in Fernquay, as his replacement
  • the pirates also deal in slaves - Knossos is the centre of the slave trade
  • Captain Carver has "unusual appetites" the exact nature of which is not common knowledge
  • the pirates have established smuggling operations in every major settlement along the River Brallen (from Helsmuth to Laveril)
  • the pirates have been trying to track down Lord Martok and his companions

As they walked past the mouth of an alleyway, an insectile, humanoid creature sprang out and sank its fangs into Lukwind. Rohit, who had been scouting along the rooftops, was amazed that he hadn't sensed its presence sooner. He leapt across the street and got into position behind it, but not before it had raked Lukwind with its claws and bitten him again. Lukwind suddenly felt weak, as the creature's poison took effect. Elsa stepped forward and swung at the creature with her sword, but was unable to damage its chitinous hide. Finally, Rohit jumped down into the alleyway, hacked a piece out of the creature with his kusari-gama, then sprung out of harm's way.

Finding itself surrounded, the creature suddenly disappeared. Lukwind quickly cast dispel magic and Rohit threw a flask of alchemist's fire, but the creature was nowhere to be seen. A moment later, it reappeared, 40 feet above their heads. Lukwind drank a potion of see invisibility while Rohit and Elsa fired arrows at it. The creature flew towards the south and the heroes set off in pursuit, leaving the fire in the alleyway behind them.

All three adventurers managed to keep up with the creature, since it was not a fast flier. They peppered it with arrows, gradually wearing it down, until it crashed into the pier, dead. Rohit searched the body, finding 10 potions.

Lukwind thought that it must have fled in this direction for a reason, so he cast detect secret doors. After ten minutes of searching, he sensed a hidden passageway 40 feet below the surface of the river.

Afterwards, they decided to take their kill to show Jurd Shipman and claim their reward. However, the merchant asked if he could have more time to find the money. His business hadn't been doing well lately: the deaths of those children in the warehouse fire reflected poorly on him, and there had been a number of incidents of vandalism. To top it all off, Jon Ingleson has been elected as the new mercantile representative on the city council. A renowned racist, he was sure to make life difficult for the half-orc citizens of Marchion.

Sympathizing with his tale of woe, Lukwind mentioned that he was planning to found a new theatre in Marchion, and offered Jurd the contract to build and furnish it.
